How pickup & drop-off work

Every time you rent a car on Turo, you’ll:

  • Receive pickup and drop-off instructions from your host once you book
  • Check in, check out, and chat with your host through the Turo app
  • Upload your driver’s license or show it to your host in person

Multiple pickup & drop-off options

Some hosts meet guests in person, while others opt for remote handoffs.

In Person

Your host meets you at your chosen pickup location and hands you the keys.

With A Lockbox

Your host sends you a lockbox code, then you unlock the box to get the key.

With An App

Your host unlocks the car remotely with their car manufacturer’s app.

You’re protected

Physical damage protection

Choose from three protection plans — Premier, Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. Spring for Premier for peace of mind (eligibility requirements apply), or pay less for lighter protection with higher out-of-pocket costs for vehicle damage or theft.

Liability insurance included

All trips include coverage under a third-party liability insurance policy issued to Turo, from Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. The Travelers policy provides secondary (excess) coverage, to ensure that any Turo-approved driver will be insured up to the state minimum limits required for third-party liability, unless primary coverage is explicitly required by an applicable state statute (e.g., Maryland and New York).
